FIFTEEN-year-old Monkey Ago (Yorks PTP Club/Pendle) returned to the winners' enclosure when taking the Ladies Open at the Badsworth Point to Point held at Wetherby last Saturday.
The Steve Wynne-trained Class of Ninetytwo (Sir WW Wynns) tried to make all in this race but Monkey Ago was given a splendid ride by trainer Jo Foster.
They tracked the leader and moved upsides at the third last. The pair fought out a great battle to the line with Monkey Ago forging gamely clear to get up by two lengths. Ridden by Sarah Sharratt, Class of Ninetytwo was a brave second a distance clear of the Freya Hartley trained and ridden Fryup Satellite (Sinnington) who came from another county to take third.
James Delahooke's Tricky Trevor (Zetland) has been transformed since acquiring Nicky Tinkler in the saddle and he clocked up a third win of the season when taking the Men's Open.
The race turned into a good battle between the two market leaders Tricky Trevor and the Gill Walford trained Maitre De Musique (Middleton) ridden by owner Martin Tate. Both horses were held up early, made good headway to dispute the lead three from home and were locked together after.
Maitre De Musique led at the last but Tricky Trevor responded well for Tinkler, rallied on the flat and got up to win by two lengths.
The Chris Dennis trained Knight Templar (M Harland/Hurworth) ran a good race back in third. Ridden by Lee Bates, Knight Templar was outpaced from the third last.
The Tony Walker-trained The Graduate (C Robertson/Holderness) put up a very impressive front running performance in the Restricted. In very testing conditions ridden by Simon Walker, The Graduate galloped the opposition into submission. Held up early, the Martina Mulhall-trained Vino Tinto (York & Ainsty) chased the winner hard over the closing fences under Clive Mulhall.
The pair could never get to the winner who galloped on relentlessly for an 18-length win. Vinto Tino finished second ten lengths clear of third placed Wilfie Wild (A Jackson/Cleveland).
Robin Tate's yard can do no wrong at the moment and The Only Option (Bilsdale) was the latest winner from that yard when taking the Second Division of the Young horses Maiden. Ridden by Fiona Needham, The Only Option was always prominent, he was two lengths down at the last but quickened up impressively on the flat, pulling clear to win by three lengths.
The Clive Mulhall-ridden Coastley Lane (D Carr/Haydon) led for much of the final circuit until being caught by the winner. An unlucky loser in the race was the 15-length third Fille Doree (Manor Farm PTP/Cleveland). Racing over fences for the first time she was badly hampered and refused at the first. Re-tracing she did really well to get back into the race under Richard Clark, the pair were closing in at the finish.
In the Older horses Maiden Division One, the Sue Nicholls-trained Stevie Dee (P Clowe-Jowsey/Sinnington) finally made it to the winners' enclosure after three seconds. Ridden by Freya Hartley, Stevie Dee made every yard of the running until joined by the favourite, Ernie Fenwick's Do Justice (Zetland) at the last.
Ridden by F King, Do Justice looked set to take the race but Stevie Dee dug deep and stayed on best to win by five lengths. The Tim Reed-trained Sam Byrne (J Brockbank/Cumberland) made a winning debut in the First Division of the Young horses Maiden in the hands of Ran Morgan.
He took up the running after a circuit while the Chris Grant-owned and trained Gunner Dream (South Durham) made good headway under a strong ride from Lee Bates to dispute the lead three from home. The pair fought out a good battle until Sam Byrne pulled clear on the run in to win by 12 lengths.
David Atkinson's Nomadic Star (Bedale) finished ten lengths back in third. Ridden by Peter Atkinson he held every chance until weakening from the second last.
The Beverley Kendall-ridden Cool Kevin (M Kendall/West of Yore) won the Second Division of the Older horses Maiden. The pair did well to survive a bad mistake with a circuit to go and just held on to win by two lengths in a driving finish.
In the Members race the favourite Stoney River (P England), ridden by Nick Kent, comfortably beat Dry Hill Lad, ridden by owner Emily Morton with the early leader Quick Ascent, ridden by trainer Ian Bennett, weakening into third.
* Easter's point to point action includes the Hurworth at Hutton Rudby tomorrow, first race 12.30, and the Staintondale at Charm Park on Monday, first race 2pm
