AN elderly man was killed yesterday when his car was involved in a head-on collision.
The accident happened at about 10.30am on the B6275 south of Piercebridge, on the North Yorkshire-County Durham border.
The driver of a Ford Fiesta had to be cut from the wreckage by firefighters, but was pronounced dead at the scene.
Although he is thought to be local, his identity has not yet been confirmed by the police.
Three passengers in a black Ford Sierra were also taken to hospital for treatment. The driver, who was not seriously injured, was arrested at the scene. Police have yet to confirm whether he has been charged with any offence.
