TWELVE community organisations in the North-East are to benefit from £243,532 over the next two years to boost adult learning.
The cash is from the sixth round of grants from the Adult and Community Learning Fund. It has gone to a range of initiatives which put adult basic skills at the heart of learning activities.
Darlington College of Technology gets £21,350 to engage disaffected and disadvantaged young adults in accredited activities.
Chester-le-Street and District CVS gets £29,482 to explore new options of basic skills delivery to men, and the Unversity of Sunderland £4,898 to engage refugees in education.
The Interactive Development in Newcastle gets £30,000 to work with people with learning and physical disabilities through drama.
In Stockton, Borough Carers Resource Centre has been given £8,576 to encourage carers to return to learning.
Minister for adult skills, John Healey, said: "All these projects will provide more learning opportunities for people within their own communities.
