CHILDREN in Middlesbrough will have a chance to get back to nature when an environmental club is launched.
The project, Lingfield Wildlife Watch Club, is being started by Middlesbrough Council and Tees Valley Wildlife Trust, at Lingfield Farm Countryside Centre.
It is aimed at children aged between seven and 12 and is ideal for all animal fans, nature sleuths and young environmentalists.
Meetings will be free and children can join the national Watch club, through which they will receive newsletters, posters and activity ideas.
The meetings will teach children about the local environment, through investigation and play.
Activities will include pond dips, mini-beast hunts, creature surveys and other activities to stimulate an interest in the natural world.
To celebrate the launch of the club, a Ponds and Paint event is being held on Saturday, April 13, between 10am and noon.
Children will be pond dipping and will then design t-shirts.
Centre assistant Graeme Shimmin said: "Watch is a national environmental club for children interested in the natural world.
"It aims to stimulate an interest in wildlife and the environment by being fun and imaginative.
"Middlesbrough Council and Tees Valley Wildlife Trust hope that children will both learn and have fun with this new club."
