A BATTLING display saw Thirsk Falcons earn their right to a place in the final of the Intermediate Cup after beating Hampsthwaite Utd 2-1 in extra time.
Falcons had a nervous start and went behind after only eight minutes when Sopterean was lobbed as he came out to the Hampsthwaite striker.
Two minutes later, the home goalkeeper made a fine save from ten yards as Falcons failed to clear their lines. Richie Turner went close with Falcons' first real chance on twenty minutes, but his shot was well blocked. Then on thirty minutes, Paul Plows levelled the score when he cut in from the left.
Falcons were unlucky not to be in front at half time when Neil Clark's cross was well headed goalwards by brother Scott but it was cleared off the line
Falcons created an early chance in the second half, but Plows' shot cleared the upright. Clark then headed over the bar as Falcons pressed but couldn't take advantage of their chances.
In extra time Falcons pushed forward and this time were rewarded when Turner went on a great run and his shot crept in off the post.
Falcons could have sealed it with five minutes to go when Pearce headed over the bar.
Tomorrow Falcons play their second semi-final at home against Helperby Hotspurs, kick off 2.30pm.
