Result of the week in Division One was a 4-2 win for New Marske B who were this week playing their A team.
Alan Hebden and Gordon Matthews, in their encounter, won a frame each with scores of 45-21 and 38-60. This was the story once again when Gary Forrest and Keith Corner also won a game each with scores of 50-38 and 38-76. The star player of the night was the B teams Ken Heywood when he sealed the victory beating Ron Greenwood by 62-48 and 40-22. Leaders, Redcar Workies A were this week playing away to the Redcar Lakes A team. The Workies chalked up an excellent 4-2 victory during which Phil Carr compiled an excellent 46 break. With now only two games remaining the Workies are too far ahead of the chasing pack to be caught and are therefore the 2002 Division One Champions. The second placed team, Redcar Lakes C, had a tough away match at Grinkle Park but they came away with an excellent 3-3 draw. During this match Simon Page compiled a 40 break. Again with only two matches remaining, The Redcar Lakes C cannot be caught and take this year's Division One runners-up prize. In the remaining games Saltburn Cons. A chalked up an excellent 5-1 home win against Guisborough TA, Carlin How A won by six games to nil owing to their opponents Lune Street A having not turned up, The Redcar Cons A team held their opponents Guisborough Cons. to a 3-3 tie and the match between Marske Workies A and Redcar Lakes B also ended as a 3-3 draw.
With only two matches now remaining to be played in Division Two, leaders, Redcar Unionists A, were this week playing host to the Saltburn Cons. B. Barry Chapman got the home side off to a great start when winning both of his games against Dave Browning with scores of 63-24 and 63-35. Second to the table was Rob Elliot playing Stuart Tait. Elliot played two outstanding games beating his opponent on both occasions by 71-10 and 57-20. The stage was then set for the Unionist's Paul Reeve to complete the whitewash. Dave Tait had no chance whatsoever in their first encounter with Reeve's compiled an outstanding 100 clearance to win by 107-10. Tait faired better in their second encounter but eventually lost this frame by 72-31. The Unionists did pull off the whitewash and are now three points clear at the top of Division 2, but it's still anybody's guess to who will win this year's title.
Second-placed Lune Street B, kept their promotion campaign on track with a 5-1 home win against Carlin How B. In the remaining matches Redcar Unionist's B chalked up a good 4-2 away win against Redcar Lakes D, The Redcar Literary Institute registered another home win, this time the result was 5-1 against Marke Workies B, Ennis Square's B team beat their A team by 4-2 and finally Redcar Workies B beat Val's Priory by 4-2.
