The Coarse fishing scene is firmly on the Stillwaters now with the rivers closed until Sunday, 16 June and fortunately the region has a wealth of top notch venues and anglers are enjoying bumper sport.
A tremendously successful Preston Innovations League concluded on Woodland Lakes with Elton Tackle's Mark Longhurst taking individual glory on the day bagging 54.10.0.
The key to success on Skylark's peg 22 proved the inside line. Working at five and six metres and using cat food on the hook Mark kept the fish coming steadily throughout netting mirrors up to 5.0.0.
Darren Taylor of Drop Outs pushed him all the way totalling 52.2.0. Fishing Mallard Lake's corner peg 10 Darren searched the island ledge on long pole and corn recording a mixed net including a bonus mirror carp of 8.0.0.
Age Concern brushed aside the youngsters to win on the day and book a place in the Mallory Park final.

Then Saturday's Open at Woodlands attracted 106 competitors just four short of a sell out yet in perfect conditions bites were harder to come by.
Raygill Fisheries Andy Steel's first visit proved a memorable one. Fishing Partridge 12 Andy opted for a long pole approach into the deeper water and collected all carp on corn for 32.3.0 to hold off venue regular Tri Cast Whizzo's John Allerton who drew the jackpot peg Partridge 14 worth £250 and disastrously missed out by a mere 2ozs.
In the Abu Spring Series at Carpvale Fisheries Moor Monkton small carp made up the leaders bags during a competitive second round.
In an arm-aching session Dave Madison of York Tackle brought in 114 fish for 31.14.0. Sat on peg 42 speed was of the essence and dictated a shorter line on the pole at ten metres catching on both maggot and corn hookbaits followed by Normark's Paul Clarke on 28.4.0 from peg 51.
Cleveland Angling Centre's Dave Harris emerged winner of the 1st round of the Teesside League on Sessay's Maple Lake but with a surprisingly low weight of 16.4.0.
Under the Pole Pullers banner Dave on peg 63 went for a long pole and maggot attack across to the farside picking up mostly carp in the 8oz bracket but a bonus fish of 2.0.0. made all the difference.
Local ace Rab Ogilvy of Team oaks found the short approach more effective off peg 48 tempting a better stamp of carp up to 4.0.0 down the side on corn for 15.3.0.
Pellets were the deadly bait during Sunday's Oaks Open switched to Poplars Lake.
Mark Whittaker of Harrogate Angling Supplies gained the verdict. On peg three the pole at 13 metres accounted for carp nudging 2.8.0 for 26.4.0 from runner-up in Saturday's big Woodlands event John Allerton 25.8.0.

Leighton Reservoir (Masham). Windy conditions prevailed making casting difficult although the rod average is creeping up to over two fish per angler.
Best flies: Dawsons, fritz and cats whisker. 120 visitors recorded 277 trout - A Staple (Horsehouse) and T Appleby (Middlesbrough) both grassed rainbows of 6.0.0 apiece.
Redworth's Jubilee Lakes boasts a 3.2 rod average along with the now expected specimen rainbows in returns.
Top trio: 15.5.0 Phil Taylor (Blaydon) black zonker 14.13.0 Troy Cardno (South Shields) damsel 14.6.0 Dean Taylor (Penrith) orange lure.
