Middlesbrough and District League: The Cleveland won their first match of the season in style when they were away to Captain Cook.
The Cook went 1-0 up from Ray Yassin, Marty Smith was up against Shaun Price. Marty just missed out on a seven ball clearance when be was hampered when on the black not having enough room to get his cue in and missed the black. Shaun put Marty in a snooker but Marty hit an excellent shot to pot the black for 1-1. In frame four Darren Brittain left his last red ball in the jaws of the pocket and in stepped Alan Hitchinson who hit a captain's clearance potting his last four yellows and the black for 3-1. Lee Sheekey was in excellent form with an impressive clearance to put the Cleveland 4-1 up. Ste Hitchinson made it a hat-trick of wins for the Hitchinson family. In the last frame man of the match Rob Vary cleared the last five balls to win the frame. Vary, last season, didn't win one frame but this season he is playing better and has won four from eight. Cleveland took a shock 6-1 win.
The Captain Cook 8s had a tough match at the Yellow Rose and the Rose won. Mick Peacock won the first frame and ended Cooks' Kevin Dismore's unbeaten run. The Cook hit back to win the next four frames from Paul Burke, Michael Gray, Ian Corns winning his first match of the season Ian kept his cool under pressure to pot a very good black. Alan Stevenson, still unbeaten, made it 4-1 to the Cook. Darren Wardle was let off the hook after Gary Mahon was unlucky when trying to move the black for 4-2. Steve Woodier also remains unbeaten after he won the last frame for a 5-2 victory.
The White Rose came very close to upsetting the leaders Royal George. In a close-fought match the George eventually won 4-3.
Tables have reinstated Dave Robinson as their captain again after some poor results and the lads replied by hammering the Endeavour 6-1 with wins from Simon Holmes, Terry Allan, Stuart Richardson, Shaun Richardson Robinson, Kevin Piggott and Mike Shaw.
