WORK has got under way on a major project to improve the physical environment for the people who live and work in an area of Teesside.
Workers have begun demolishing the first blocks of houses in the Trinity Crescent area of North Ormesby, starting with Sharrock Close, Linsley Close and Lawson Close.
The first stage of the project is expected to take six months.
Middlesbrough Council is working with local representatives and the local community to map out an action plan for North Ormesby. Plans already in the pipeline include redevelopment of the Trinity Crescent area, a medical village with a range of facilities, redevelopment of the Holy Trinity Church hall and a market square.
Councillor John Jones, commissioner for regeneration, said: "The demolition of these dwellings gives the council a great opportunity to work in partnership with the community and to provide quality improvements for the people of North Ormesby. It is the first step to make major improvements in this established community."
