RESIDENTS in east Durham are being urged to help create a greener environment for future generations.
District of Easington cabinet member for the environment Councillor David Taylor Gooby is asking everyone to do their bit for the community.
A local agenda called Our Future in Our Hands was launched by the district a year ago and is now undergoing a review.
The guideline looks at how to meet the demands of residents today without compromising the needs of future generations.
Issues covered include energy conservation, natural resources, community safety and regeneration, noise control, light pollution, housing, health, transport, waste and recycling.
In a list of handy hints for residents, Coun Taylor Gooby suggests:
* Switch off lights when they are not needed.
* Switch off computers and electric heaters when not in use.
* Recycle waste paper and bottles.
He said: "We are already well on the way to meeting many targets, but the success of a strategy for Easington depends on the goodwill and co-operation of everyone. Even small gestures like switching off electrical equipment when they are are not in use will help.''
