RESIDENTS packed into a library to discuss the future of a shopping precinct in Blaydon.
Concern was expressed about the centre, where a number of shops have closed in recent months.
Ward councillor Malcolm Brain, who chaired the meeting, said talks had been held with the centre's managing agents, Donaldsons, which had made a commitment to further development to attract new business.
Residents welcomed plans for new pedestrian crossings at the bottom of Blaydon Bank and top of Shibdon Bank.
Coun Brain said: "I was delighted that so many people came and expressed their views directly to the services present. It demonstrates how committed people are to the area and to ensuring the necessary improvements are made.
