A young farmers' club is determined to keep its head above water while trying to boost numbers.
Masham YFC had between 15 and 20 members when it raised £1,500 for two local causes with a barn dance at Tim Gibson's farm, near Crakehall.
The money, which has just been presented, was split between Masham fire station and the local patients' group.
Since the fundraising event, however, some members have left because they were too old and others affected by the foot-and-mouth crisis have not returned, leaving just five members.
Masham is trying to hold joint meetings every month with Lower Wensleydale and Reeth, two other clubs in the western Dales YFC district.
Carl Harrison, chairman of Masham YFC, said: "We must be one of the smallest YFCs in North Yorkshire, but we want to carry on and try to attract new members."
Undeterred by its low membership, Masham YFC is planning a dinner dance on Saturday, April 27, from 7.30pm, at The Lodge in Leeming Bar, formerly Motel Leeming. Tickets cost £14.
Anyone wishing to attend the event or to join the club is asked to contact Mr Harrison, on (01765) 658346, secretary Helen Lancaster, on (01677) 470573, or treasurer Amy Benson, on (01677) 470294).
