MANY people with strong ties to the North-East and North Yorkshire have been known to order copies of The Northern Echo from time to time.
Their ranks were joined in 1995 when a copy of The Great Daily of the North was requested for the Queen Mother.
The royal request followed the publication of a photograph of Peninsula, a horse which the Queen Mother had presented to the Queen's Own Hussars 15 years earlier.
The picture of Peninsula was taken during a charity ride by then-80-year-old retired Army Major Ted Hughes, who was contacted by the Queen Mother's Lady-in-Waiting Lady Margaret Colville.
Major Hughes, in turn, contacted The Northern Echo and a copy was despatched.
