CARE for the elderly in Ripon could be overhauled in a £2.5m scheme.
The development, part of the county council's programme of modernising residential care, aims to replace outdated care homes such as Ripon House.
It would comprise a complex of one and two-bedroomed flats and would provide elderly people with a more independent option than a care home.
Under the council's extra-care scheme, the complex would feature staff on call 24 hours a day, a cafeteria, communal lounges and assisted bathing rooms.
Social services bosses are in talks with district and borough councils about an overhaul of care homes and are meeting the Hanover Housing Association.
The council will stage a series of consultation days to assess the views of residents before looking at applying for cash for the scheme
