THE Palace Cinema, at Malton, which closed four years ago, is to re-open in the next few weeks after being taken over by Ryedale Entertainments, of York.
Since the closure of the 70- year-old cinema, residents have campaigned for it to be re-opened and sent a petition to Ryedale District Council.
Jeremy Powell, head of the company, who is also joint managing director of HI-Q Broadcast, which provides technical facilities for radio stations in the North of England, said £40,000 was being invested in renovating the cinema, which will also be used for bingo and as a conference and exhibition centre.
