Jarrow Roofing lifted themselves away from immediate danger of relegation with a 3-1 win at fellow strugglers Thornaby.
Their hero was tall striker Paul Chow, who scored twice as his side climbed nine points above the relegation zone.
Chow struck after just three minutes, when Paul Hodgson set him up to score wit h a left foot shot from ten yards out, and after Thornaby's Phil Ross missed a penalty, they went further ahead after 31 minutes when Chow scored from a David Hague corner.
And they virtually sealed the points when Hodgson crossed for Craig Nelson to score the third.
Charlie Eeles pulled one back for Thornaby from the spot, but that wasn't enough to prevent them losing their fourth game in a row.
Washington are now in the bottom four after they were trounced 5-0 at Dunston, who are looking good for the runners-up spot.
The home side took the lead when Andy Fletcher headed in a cross from Micky Farrey.
Derek Ord's cross was fumbled into his own net by Washington keeper Craig Shields, then recent signing Lee Adamson fired two more. Neil Shotton hit a fifth.
Already relegated Seaham Red Star drew 2-2 at Consett. They took the lead inside the first minute when Stuart Morris scored and just after half time Martin Dibie raced clear for the second.
But Consett hit back after 63 minutes when Tony Halliday scored from a Lee Suddes cross, and in the dying seconds Chris Hodgson hit the equaliser.
Morpeth are still deep in trouble after they were beaten 4-1 at home by Chester-le-Street. Chester took the lead when Jamie Morgan scored from a long throw, then David Turner volleyed in a cross from Morgan before half time.
Gary Shields scored from an Andy Blower cross for the third, then Steve Leadbitter and Shields combined well for Blower to score the fourth. Paul Beavers pulled a goal back late in the game. Chester have appointed Tony Heslop as assistant manager to replace Willie Ferry, who quit last week.
Newcastle Blue Star are still hovering above the danger zone after they lost 2-1 at Ashington. Kevin Moore put Ashington ahead direct from a corner. Then new signing Mark Patty headed in a Moore cross. David Muir pulled one back from close range late on.
Bedlington are now just nine points away from their fifth successive title after they beat Tow Law 4-0 at Welfare Park.
Robbie Cockburn got them off to a good start with a solo effort after five minutes, then they caught Tow Law on the break in the last 20 minutes. Steve Boon fired the second, Willie Moat blasted in from the edge of the box, and Cockburn notched the fourth.
West Auckland have now gone seven games without a win after they drew 1-1 with Marske United.
They took the lead after 32 minutes when James Lang set up Jonathan Milroy to score from ten yards. Then West defender Neil Johnson could only turn a cross from Greg Booth into his own net later on.
Guisborough and Brandon drew 2-2 at the King George. Thomas Jones fired Guisborough into the lead with a left foot shot, but then Mark Patterson and Robbie Marsden hit back to put Brandon into the lead before half time. Kevin Newell levelled.
Billingham Synthonia defeated Peterlee 1-0 at Central Avenue, thanks to Lee Flanagan's goal.
The second division promotion race looks as if it is going to go to the last week of the season.
Leaders Esh Winning kept their four point lead with a 2-0 home win over Crook Town, their goals coming deep into the second half from Gary Messer and Neil Emmerson.
Penrith stay second thanks to a 1-0 win at Willington, whose defender Darren Griffiths put through his own goal.
Easington are in the third promotion place after they beat Kennek Ryhope CA with a goal from Ian Matthews. Shildon won their vital promotion clash at Washington Nissan 4-0 to move into fourth place, recent signing Mark Rutter amongst the scorers. Shildon play at Northallerton this morning
Prudhoe are level on points with Shildon after they won their derby with Whickham 1-0 thanks to a goal from Peter Robinson.
