A GROUP of people with learning disabilities are to be given more independence when they move from residential care into newly-refurbished houses at the end of the month.
Thanks to a partnership scheme involving the Endeavour Housing Association, Stockton Borough Council's social services and housing departments, the organisation Creative Support, clients and carers, tenants will live in two semi-detached houses in the Ragworth area of Stockton.
Round-the-clock support will be available for the tenants on the premises, but the main focus of the project is to provide them with more choice and flexibility in their everyday lives.
Carole Morgan, supported housing manager for Endeavour Housing said: "The great thing is that they will be living independent lives in the community at the same time as being able to access support any time they want."
The council has refurbished the properties and Endeavour Housing Association has provided £30,000 for furniture, carpets and decorations.
