THE official opening of the region's latest community wood will take place this month.
Two hundred acres at South Burdon, on the outskirts of Darlington, has been bought by the Forestry Commission, which plans to turn it into a community area.
The commission, in partnership with Darlington Borough Council, intends to plant 140,000 trees during the next ten years.
The plans will be launched at the end of April by Health Minister and Darlington MP Alan Milburn.
It will be part of the Tees Forest, which is intended to link Stockton and Darlington, giving cover for cyclists and nature enthusiasts wanting to travel between the two areas.
