POLICE arrested a man and a woman and seized 28 wraps of what is thought to be heroin in a raid at a house in Middlesbrough during the weekend. A third person was arrested at another address in the town, hours later. An amount of cannabis was allegedly discovered. All the arrests were part of a pledge by Detective Superintendent Adrian Roberts to arrest a dealer a day. Detective Inspector Chris Garner, of Middlesbrough CID, said: "There was was no let-up over Easter."
Free courses: Stockton Adult Education, supported by the European Social Fund, is starting a series of courses for women across the borough, who have not taken advantage of the Championing Women's Learning Project courses. Free courses will be held in Stockton, Billingham, Stillington and Ingleby Barwick in the week starting April 15. A basic computer course will also be held in Stillington. Make a splash: Hartlepool Youth Offending Service and the town's youth service have joined forces for the Easter Splash initiative, which gives children aged ten and over the chance to take part in activities including arts and crafts, canoeing and music tuition. PUB FIRE: An investigation is under way after a Hartlepool pub was severely damaged by fire on Sunday. The pub, in Seaton Lane, was formerly known as The Golden Flats Hotel. The storeroom was severely damaged by fire and the ground floor severely damaged by smoke.
Garden design: The Thornaby and Ingleby Barwick Women's Institute will meet on Wednesday, April 17, at the Methodist Church, Stanstead Way, Thornaby, at 7.30pm. The meeting will be about garden design.
