A CURRY with a royal flavour is to be created at a North-East college as part of the celebrations for the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
Khadim Hussain has come up with the idea of a curry contest, at Middlesbrough College, in honour of the monarch's 50th anniversary.
"I got the idea from the coronation chicken curry dish that turned up in my history studies," said Mr Hussain, a Lifelong Learning student at the University of Teesside and a restaurateur at Cleveland Tandoori, Middlesbrough.
Jonathon Lee, first year course co-ordinator for catering and hospitality studies at the college, said: "This is a really exciting concept.
"At Middlesbrough College we are proud to have the leading courses in catering and food preparation. This innovative idea is a splendid way to celebrate the Queen's jubilee."
The college is organising a competition for first year students to create a suitable dish. Mr Hussain and his brother, Abid, co-partner in the Cleveland Tandoori, will be two of the judges.
Mr Lee said: "The name is also important. We are using jubilee curry as a temporary label.
"We need to add a sense of place. Maybe another competition to name the dish. How about Cleveland Jubilee?"
