Newcastle United boss Bobby Robson has launched a stinging attack at players and agents, claiming massive salaries are ruining the game.
Robson believes clubs are relying too much on TV money and that players and agents are cashing in on clubs who are receiving millions for TV rights.
However, ITV Digital's current financial plight may mean clubs will no longer reap the benefits of such deals and Robson has warned clubs will have to cut down on spending if television money is reduced.
Robson said: "What clubs have to realise is the amount of money that is going out of the game to players and agents. They are the people who are taking the money out.
"Players are demanding massive salaries, in some cases more than they are worth. And agents are taking far too much advantage.
"There is a growing feeling at the top level of football that the sort of money that is being paid by TV won't be there next time contracts are negotiated.
"The time is with us when people have to be a bit more conservative.
"There is no guarantee that TV money is going to be there for ever, and I question whether clubs should rely upon it."
