ONE of the region's best known shipwrecks is the focus of a new exhibition.
Kirkleatham Old Hall Museum, in Redcar, is the venue for the display and a series of holiday activities based around the theme of the Dimitris, a Greek cargo ship which sank off the Redcar coast, in 1953.
One of the main aspects of the exhibition is the story of how the Cleveland Divers, who became the first group in the North-East to adopt a shipwreck, created a virtual reality tour of the wreck with backing from Teesside University.
It means that people who are not so keen on diving can still see the treasures of the deep, without getting their feet wet.
Youngsters will be able to search for treasure and there are also artefacts collected by the museum, drawings and films.
The divers also intend to have sealife days, when they will bring live marine creatures to the museum to show to the children.
The wreck can sometimes be seen off the coast at low tide, because it lies just seven metres below the surface of the water.
The exhibition runs until May 19.
