Bishop Auckland are now four points above the relegation zone after their 1-0 home win over Whitby on Monday.
The game was never a classic, but Bishops scored the only goal just before half time, when Whitby Danny Woods turned a corner into his own goal under pressure from Bishop's Michael Quinn.
Whitby had plenty of possession in the second half, but they rarely troubled David Campbell in the Bishop Auckland goal.
Bishops are now fifth from bottom, and more importantly they are above Colwyn Bay, who have slid down the table in recent weeks, and are now looking strong candidates for the bottom three.
It was a triumphant weekend for Bishops, with three wins from three matches played - two league wins plus victory in the Durham Challenge Cup final against Billingham Town, which was a tedious affair. And it's fair to say that the only highlight of that game was the winning goal by Andy Shaw in the second half.
After losing to Bishops on Monday, Whitby suddenly hit top form and thumped Emley 4-1 on Wednesday night at the Turnbull Ground. All their goals came in the first 25 minutes. Craig Skelton, Alex Gildea, Graham Robinson and Richard Dunning scored to put Whitby fourth bottom, and drop Colwyn Bay into the bottom three Bishops were involved in some transfer activity before Sunday's deadline.
Kevin Bromley went to Gateshead, striker Danny Brunskill and midfielder Steve Hutt went to Spennymoor, with Wayne Edgcumbe travelling in the opposite direction.
Spennymoor are still playing catch-up in the First Division after they lost 2-0 at Harrogate Town on Monday. Moors were annoyed about Harrogate's first goal, claiming that there was an element of handball.
