AFRICAN youngsters are tuning up for a tour of the region.
The African Children's Choir performed at Durham City's Gala Theatre yesterday to promote a series of concerts taking place this month.
Comprising 26 youngsters aged between six and 12, many of whom are orphaned or victims of famine, the choir has gained an international reputation.
Its credits include a Hollywood film soundtrack and TV shows such as Blue Peter, Hearts of Gold and an award-winning documentary by Desmond Wilcox.
Funds raised from concerts go to Africa to build a better future for its children.
Ray Barnett, the choir's founder, said: "The choir has always received a great reception from the people of the North-East, therefore we are once again delighted to be performing in the region.
"Life for children in Africa can be very difficult, often without many things children in other countries consider necessities."
A concert will take place at the Gala Theatre, Durham, tomorrow at 7pm, with tickets available from the box office, on 0191-383 0100.
Other performances for which tickets are still available are at Emmanuel Fellowship, Yarm, on Sunday, contact (01642) 781919; and Emmanuel College, Gateshead, next Thursday, contact 0191-512 1234
