AN application for a hot food takeaway in Spennymoor has been refused.
Members of Sedgefield Borough Council's development control committee rejected the proposal for the takeaway in an empty property in Whitworth Terrace, next to the Ken Warne supermarket.
The council received nine letters of objection from neighbours, who raised concerns about noise, odours, litter and road safety.
Spennymoor Town Council also objected on the grounds of increased traffic, litter and noise, and that the scheme would interfere with proposed road improvements.
Planning officer Charlie Walton told councillors that a takeaway would be inappropriate in a residential area.
Members unanimously rejected the application.
