ABOUT 250 residents in the village of Snainton on the A170 Scarborough to Thirsk road have signed petitions calling for action to cut the speed of traffic.
Garage owner Des Winks said: "There have been dozens of minor accidents and it is only time before there is a fatality."
A North Yorkshire County Council spokesman said a puffin crossing was to be provided later this year, but because of the residents' concerns, surveys will be carried out on the speed of traffic.
