A HERO of the Titanic is to be commemorated in his home town 90 years after the tragedy.
James Moody, 24, the youngest officer on the liner's maiden voyage, took the message from men on the watch that the ship was about to strike an iceberg.
The son of Scarborough solicitor and town councillor John Moody, he also helped to fill three lifeboats. His body has never been recovered.
Now his niece will unveil a brass plaque at Scarborough Lifeboat House later this month to mark his bravery.
The event has been organised by the HMS Conway Old Boys' Association because Mr Moody had been a cadet on the training ship, HMS Conway, said George Brown, a trustee of the association.
"He gave his life in peacetime to one of the worst maritime disasters ever, but there were no medals for this brave young officer.
"It is only right that his act of tremendous bravery should be remembered in the town of his birth."
