ANOTHER bid has been submitted for a mobile phone mast on the edge of a Dales community which rejected a similar scheme last month.
Vodafone won the backing of the Yorkshire Dales National Park's planning officers when the firm suggested an antenna disguised as a flagpole on the tower of St Margaret's Church, in Hawes.
However, the authority's planning committee proved more difficult to convince, voting to reject the scheme on environmental grounds.
Rival company Orange will be hoping for a more sympathetic response at a meeting in Ingleborough Community Centre in Ingleton today.
This time, the site is an empty corner of the Brunt Acres Industrial Estate just to the north of the Wensleydale market town.
Planning officers are again recommending approval. A report states: "It is not considered that the proposed mast will deter potential occupiers from developing this site; rather the proposed mast should be considered as an aid to economic development by helping to provide a mobile phone network within the area."
National park authority members are due to vote on the issue this morning.
