A CHARITY is looking for volunteers to help raise £65,000 to launch an odd job scheme.
Help the Aged in Durham and Wearside is asking for helpers to take part in fund-raising events throughout the year. Money raised will go towards the charity's Handy Van scheme which it hopes to launch in the next few months.
The scheme, which already operates in Newton Aycliffe, will enable elderly people to have odd jobs done around their homes for free.
Volunteers will carry out the work and residents will just have to pay for parts.
Help the Aged is now asking for people to collect bottles for tombolas, sell raffle tickets and hold coffee mornings.
A request has also gone out for a retired policeman to help with parking at a country fair to be held in Spennymoor in July.
Anyone who can help is asked to call Peter Beaty on (01325) 313924.
