CHILDCARE places in Hartlepool are to receive a boost, thanks to plans which have just been approved.
The work will include creating more places for children up to the age of 14 and recruiting and training more specialist childcare workers.
The plans have been developed by Hartlepool Local Education Authority in conjunction with the Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership.
The partnership is made up of agencies, childcare providers, training organisations and parents across the town.
Plans for this year can get under way after being approved by the Department for Education and Skills.
They include:
* Creating 269 out-of-school childcare places, to add to more than 180 places already created
* Providing 242 new pre-school childcare places
* Creating 66 childminder posts - adding to the 53 created last year
* Recruiting and training at least 55 childcare and early years workers
* Promoting equal opportunities for youngsters with special needs.
