Trees planted for Queen Mum
SIX deciduous trees have been planted at a North-East beauty spot in memory of the Queen Mother. Councillors Barbara Harpham, Joan Sands and John Robinson, who represent Saltburn on Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council planted the trees within hours of her funeral on Tuesday, in her memory.
Bedroom fire: Firefighters from Saltburn and Skelton were called to a bedroom fire at a house on Irvine Avenue, Saltburn, yesterday morning. The crews used a hose reel and four breathing apparatus to help put out the blaze.
TEE INVITATION: Members of Teesside Golf are being invited to take part in the 2002 Chrysler Golf Challenge, beginning on Sunday, April 28. Local heat winners will go on the regional finals at Yorkshire's Pannal Golf Club, in September, with the final at Turnberry, Ayrshire. A Teesside team was pipped at the very last hole last year and came in second.
Old Treasures: An antique valuation day is being held at Preston Hall Museum, on Wednesday. Valuers from Bonhams will be on hand at the Eaglescliffe venue to give assessments on ceramics, silver, pictures, furniture, clocks and other articles. The charge will be £2 for the first item valued and £1 for additional items. All proceeds are for the Butterwick Hospice. The event runs from 11am to 3pm.
Officers elected: At the annual meeting of the Conservative group in Stockton, held on Monday, Stephen Smailes was elected as group leader, Jennie Beaumont as deputy group leader and Joan Wade as group secretary for the year 2002/03.
Spring fair: Billingham Campus School, in Marsh House Avenue, Billingham, is holding a spring fair on Saturday April 20, from 2pm to 5pm. Events include raffles, bouncy castle, IT sessions, nail art and face painting. There will also be the chance to try sporting activities and watch the teachers take part in a sponsored abseil.
MEETING TONY: Teesside High School A Level students Jessica Todd and Grace Curtis met former children's TV artist Tony Hart and Morph when they took up a work experience placement with Middlesbrough public relations company, the Image Group.
