Darlington's reserves ended their season in miserable fashion yesterday as they were thumped 5-0 at Walsall and had Paul Campbell sent-off for two bookable offences.
After playing 30 minutes for the second-string last week, Simon Betts was given his first start since February 2, when he suffered a gashed leg at Carlisle, while Neil Maddison and Mark Sheeran also played.
The hosts scored all five goals before the break as they celebrated their Avon Insurance League Division One title in style.
Darlington: Andrew Grainger, Steven Harper, Simon Betts, Neil Maddison, Martin Smith, Philip Brumwell, Mark Convery, Paul Campbell, Mark Sheeran, Clark Keltie, Adam Rundle. Subs: Keith Finch, Michael Bond, Steven Morley, Chris Hughes, John Ellenden.
Darlington will travel south to Hampton and Richmond in Middlesex for a weekend football tournament during July as part of the pre-season programme.
Other clubs in the tournament include Hampton and Richmond Borough, Queens Park Rangers and Aldershot.
The tournament takes place on the weekend of July 13 and 14 and will be held at Hampton and Richmond Borough's Beveree Stadium in Hampton.
The club have already announced plans to take part in a tournament in the Isle of Man lasting from July 21-27.
Meanwhile, Ian Clark has promised fans that on Saturday Quakers will be looking to wipe out the miserable memory of their trip to Scunthorpe in November, when they lost 7-1, while doing his former Hartlepool teammates a massive favour.
Quakers' cause at Glanford Park wasn't helped when Barry Conlon and Mark Ford were both sent-off in the first half, leaving Lee Hodges and Peter Beagrie to run Darlington ragged.
Clark said: "The game at Scunthorpe was a bit of a farce. When you go down to nine men it is just a case of running about like mad trying to make up the numbers while they run past you and score.
"There were a lot of fans at that game who had spent a few quid getting there. It is up to us to give them value for money this time."
* Hartlepool United's assistant manager Colin West was left frustrated after his reserves side handed Macclesfield Town the Avon Insurance League championship yesterday, going down 3-1 at Moss Rose
