MOTHER Lorraine Thompson said she was bursting with pride as she received a running commentary over the phone of her daughter's victory in a major dancing competition.
Her daughter, Vikki Peacock, 14, of Moorside, Consett, won her category in the three-day seaside competition even though she had hardly danced in two years.
"It was fantastic, a lovely moment for Vikki," said Ms Thompson.
"I couldn't go to the competition down in Primrose Valley so one of the parents ran through all the dance routines over the phone.
"Then came the finals on the third day and I could just hear Vikki's name being read out as a victor and I was literally in tears.
"Vikki has hardly danced for two years, but she had a really intensive fortnight's work with her dance teacher, Karen Llewellyn, in Delves Lane, and it paid off. It was a dream come true."
Vikki, a Blackfyne Comprehensive pupil who hopes to become a dance teacher, won in the starter category for under 16s at the annual East Coast Dance Competition which is the class above beginners level.
