A MAYOR who lost weight has converted pounds into pounds for charity.
Councillor Barbara Punshon, mayor of Guisborough Town Council, decided to do something about her weight when she learned she was going to be mayor 15 months ago.
She has lost three stones just in time for her last civic fund-raiser and has agreed to donate £1 for every pound she has lost, which will boost her chosen charity by £42.
"I have been going to Slimming World classes at Guisborough Cricket Club and I reached my target weight last week. My incentive was that I knew I was going to be mayor and I wanted to get into a certain size," she said.
Coun Punshon hoped to raise £1,000 for Redcar and Cleveland Women's Aid's mini bus appeal and believes that with her own donation and money raised from her final civic fund-raising event, that figure should be achieved.
The event is a musical evening featuring the Guisborough All Stars and takes place on Friday April 19 at Guisborough Quoits Club starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are £3 available at Sunnyfield House or by calling Coun Punshon on (01287) 638267.
