DURHAM'S Paul Collingwood showed his England class by thrashing a century off 115 balls in the practice match against Yorkshire at the Riverside yesterday.
He dominated a second wicket stand of 155 with Jimmy Daley, reaching his hundred with his third six off the medium pace of Vic Craven.
Collingwood then retired and Daley followed him after making 58, leaving Danny Law to make an unbeaten 73 off 100 balls as Durham reached 340 for five off 91.2 overs.
Yorkshire decided not to risk Chris Silverwood after he was injured in the nets, while England Academy paceman Steve Kirby paid the price for repeatedly dropping short to Collingwood and conceded 57 runs off nine overs.
Gavin Hamilton and Ryan Sidebottom were the pick of the bowlers, with off-spinner Andy Gray failing to impress.
Michael Gough didn't bat for Durham following a back spasm, while skipper Jon Lewis had a dental appointment.
England Under 19 player Gordon Muchall was out of luck as he was run out at the non-striker's end after facing only three balls, while newcomer Ashley Thorpe made only six before being caught at mid-on.
l Pakistan all-rounder Azhar Mahmood has signed for Surrey as a short-term replacement for Saqlain Mushtaq, who will return to the club following New Zealand's tour of Pakistan on May 15.
Surrey chief executive Paul Sheldon said: ''Ben Hollioake's tragic death left a huge hole both on and off the field. Although we will never be able to replace what he brought off the pitch, Saqlain's absence has given us the opportunity to fill the void left by Ben and bring in an all-rounder of international calibre.''
Mahmood has played 113 one-day internationals and 21 Tests.
