POLICE in Whitby are hunting gangs who have vandalised cliff-top gardens and lit fires on the town's beach.
Fences and seats have been stolen from gardens in the town's Henrietta Street area and then set on fire on the beach below.
Residents have also complained to police that wheelie bins have been taken and destroyed.
Gangs of under-age drinkers are believed to be responsible.
In addition, crab and lobster pots have been taken from outside fishermen's cottages.
Sergeant Caroline Ainsworth, of Whitby police, said patrols were being stepped up, and added: "We want people to come forward with information that we can act on.
