ORGANISERS of Darlington's Community Carnival have every reason to fear an England victory in the World Cup Final, because the football showpiece event clashes with the final day of the event's big fundraiser.
The weekend of June 29 to 30 has developed into an unexpected headache for the carnival committee, which had considered hiring a giant TV screen on the Sunday.
"The trouble is that the cost would be more than any profit we make. There is talk of putting TV sets right across the front of the stage," said committee member Joe Lyonette.
The community carnival is 20 years old this year and is pledging all profits to Mind.
Fundraising begins next Saturday, when rhythm and blues band East Side Torpedoes play at Darlington Arts Centre. Tickets are available from the Arts Centre on (01325) 486555.
