THE National Lottery has done a good deed for a North Yorkshire Scout group.
Members of 1st Barton are celebrating after receiving a grant of £1,900 from the Awards for All programme, and are now planning a summer camp in honour of the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
The project begins with a camp at Brettanby, where youngsters will help prepare a float for the Richmond Meet parade on Monday, June 3.
However, the troop is also involved in an outdoor church service to mark the 50th anniversary of the Queen's Coronation.
They have also been asked to attend a barbecue to benefit the United Benefice of Barton, Manfield and Cleasby with Stapleton.
Group secretary Ken Bousfield said: "We are thrilled to receive this award. It will help us to run a camp that will benefit a large part of the community.
"Everyone is welcome on camp and can try their hand at Scout activities or, if they have a particular skill, perhaps they would like to share it with us."
* Helpers for any of the three Scout sections are always welcome. Beavers, for those aged between six and eight, meet at Barton Village Hall on Thursdays, between 6pm and 7.15pm; Cubs, for eight to ten-year-olds, meet on Mondays, between 6.30pm and 8pm; Scouts, for ten to 14-year-olds, meet on Tuesdays, between 7.15pm and 9pm.
