WORKING men's club members have helped to extend a hospice recycling project which brings in thousands of pounds a year.
The Butterwick Hospice at Bishop Auckland has spread its waste paper collection enterprise to Shildon, where it has a skip next to the Elm Road Club.
Tony Freeman, committee member Trevor Bussey and Bert Close, got the scheme under way. Recyling paper, card, old Yellow Pages, aluminium cans, toner cartridges and mobile phones earns the hospice £10,000 a year.
Organiser Bernard Harrison and his volunteers are past winners of The Northern Echo environmental competition Making a Difference.
The hospice can be contacted on (01388) 603003.
