A POPULAR seaside attraction which had hoped to re-open by Easter is now looking to be back in business by the start of summer.
The miniature railway in the Valley Gardens at Saltburn has been closed for more than a year because of severe flood damage.
It was decided to move the track to the other side of the gardens to prevent history repeating itself. The volunteers who run the railway with help from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council also asked for permission to build a bigger engine shed and make a few other improvements.
It was hoped the work would be completed in time for an Easter re-opening, but volunteer Reg Blacklock said it had taken longer than was anticipated as the group had a limited number of people.
Redcar and Cleveland Council is providing staff and funding to help the volunteers because the railway is a great visitor attraction for the seaside town
