OWN-GOAL villain Gianluca Festa apologised to Middlesbrough for his FA Cup semi-final blunder - then admitted he might have played his last game for the club.

Festa, who had been on the field only eight minutes as a replacement for hamstring victim Ugo Ehiogu, was distraught after diverting Thierry Henry's 39th-minute corner into his own net to hand Arsenal what proved the decisive goal at Old Trafford.

Centre-back Festa, a £2.7m signing from Inter Milan by former boss Bryan Robson, has spent five years with Boro and has only one more season left on his contract.

The Sardinian knows he is destined to be nothing more than a fringe player under Steve McClaren.

"I don't know about next season,'' said Festa.

"I don't know if I will be here or not.

"I've got a year left and I haven't spoken to the manager yet.

"I must say sorry to my teammates and the fans.

"Our performance was quite good.

"Everyone thought Arsenal would score three or four, but they only won because I scored an own goal.

"I have been unlucky - it hit my shin and went in. It is a shame because I felt sharp when I came on.

"Last time here in the semi-final against Chesterfield five years ago, I scored for us, but this time we lost because I put the ball in the wrong end.''
