FUNDraisers have set themselves a £10,000 challenge - to buy, train and home two guide dogs.
BBC North Yorkshire has launched a county-wide campaign to give two blind people in the county a new freedom.
And they are planning a series of outside broadcasts and events until the end of May to get the cash rolling in.
"These dogs are amazing animals, but without significant donations the waiting list of blind and partially-sighted people continues to grow," said a spokesman.
"Like many charities, the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association has seen its funds badly hit since September 11 last year, and that's why we wanted to get involved.
