A CHAMPION gardener has lived up to his name by winning eight prizes at Gateshead Spring Flower Show.
Retired gardener Geoff Gardner, of Clifton Road, Darlington, won over the judges with his prize daffodils.
He went home with eight trophies, including the top prize of best exhibit in the show.
It was a welcome change for Mr Gardner, who is known for his champion dahlias.
He said: "It is the best day that I have known.
"I have won a lot of prizes over the years for my dahlias, but not daffodils.
"The show was the best day ever."
