A SEX attacker who raped an eight-year-old boy was jailed for six years yesterday.

Simon Tempest was said to pose a high risk of re-offending. He will be supervised for a further four years after he is released, Newcastle Crown Court was told.

The 32-year-old denied attacking the youngster but was found guilty of rape and indecent assault after a trial earlier this year.

Back before the court to be sentenced, Judge David Wood told him: "The reports say you represent a high risk of re-offending in relation to sex offences of this kind. You represent a potential risk to children in the long term."

Tempest, of Lanchester Avenue, Gateshead, will be registered as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
