TEENAGERS at a Teesside school have helped raise more than £1,000 towards treatment for children with cystic fibrosis.
The 13 and 14-year-olds from Egglescliffe Comprehensive School decided to raise the cash for young sufferers at the University Hospital of North Tees after being impressed with the way a fellow pupil coped with the disease.
Lee Reed, 14, became an inspiration for his school mates because, despite having to use a nebuliser and undergo treatment for chest infections three times a day, he never misses school and manages to maintain an active social life.
With the help of their teacher, Joyce Brown, Lee and other pupils raised the money over the past year by raffling a donated large teddy bear, holding small change collections, a sponsored head shave, Christmas card sales and a mime concert held by sixth- formers.
Joyce Brown said: "I am really pleased with the pupils' efforts. They have worked extremely hard. Lee is an inspiration and we are all delighted to have been able to help children with cystic fibrosis."
