NEARLY 3,000 people headed by veteran DJ Sir Jimmy Savile - walked four miles around Scarborough's seafront to raise hundreds of pounds for charity.
The Walk for Life attracted many people in fancy dress, from toddlers to pensioners and a number of disabled people. Among the charities to benefit were the Samaritans, Marie Curie Cancer Care, the Anthony Nolan Trust, Multiple Sclerosis, plus the Scarborough charities, Elders Street Day Centre and St Mary's Social Action Centre.
Sir Jimmy, who has a flat on Scarborough's South Cliff, said: "It was a great success. Everyone enjoyed themselves and raised lots of money.
