A BROTHER and sister's devotion to working with young people through the Salvation Army has been rewarded.
Alan Turner and Joyce Snell, who attend the Salvation Army in Cross Street, Shildon, have both received certificates of appreciation for their service from the organisation.
Alan, a lorry driver for Dunn's of Shildon, has been Corps Cadet Guardian for 13 years, leading the spiritual and personal development of teenagers within the corps.
His sister Joyce, who lives in Redworth Road, Shildon, has worked tirelessly for the last 25 years as leader of the corps Timbrel Brigade.
Joyce, 54, has been involved with the Brigade since she was seven. She is retiring from her role due to ill health.
Alan is also stepping aside from his role because of work commitments but both will continue to attend army meetings and other activities.
Joyce said: "I have started visiting the elderly now, my role has just moved on."
