MUSICIANS have joined forces to create a compact disc featuring young groups and solo singers from Teesdale.

The project has been co-ordinated by Teesdale Community Resources.

The initiative has received help from the National Foundation for Youth Music, which gives funding to promote music produced by people aged between eight and 18.

Teesdale groups featured on the CD include the Watty Boys, Nineyards, Afterthought and Ortonomy.

Andrew Yeadon, of Teesdale Community Resources, who produced the CD, said the initiative had given a voice to young musicians from Teesdale.

He said: "With the combination of the experience the musicians have gained in songwriting, singing and playing, and the experience in recording and production techniques gained over the past two years, the recordings emerging from the studio are beginning to have a real professional edge.

"Usually, due to financial constraints, most young people would not be able to access such facilities. The results of this scheme have already been demonstrated in a variety of concerts, and this new CD is a clear indication of the benefits."
