Martyn Renton has been given a new look - after having his collar-length locks cut off.

The 35-year-old had his head shaved for charity at a Wild West night at the Tickle Toby pub, in Northallerton's High Street.

A support officer for the police, Martyn had often thought of going for the bald look, but had never dared.

But to raise funds for the life-savers at the Yorkshire Air Ambulance he took the plunge, helped by a team of hairdressers from Saks.

Other attractions included Scarborough's Singing Ambulanceman Chris Myers.

As well as the hairdressers, Saks of Northallerton also provided raffle prizes, while air ambulance fundraisers sold copies of their charity mascot, Oscar the teddy bear.

Management from the Tickle Toby donated all the proceeds of meals sold to those taking part in the fun night.

Air Ambulance fundraising manager John Everson said: "It was a splendid evening, well attended, and we are so grateful to the very courageous Martyn for putting his head on the block, so to speak."

The evening raised more than £1,000, with more cash still to come in.

Further air ambulance functions are planned for the area and anyone interested in lending a hand is asked to call Mr Everson on 07764 906515.
