Emily Fitchett has been rewarded after battling back from a broken arm by clinching a place in the British Youth Trampoline Squad.
The 14-year-old from Tantobie, near Stanley, won the Copenhagen Cup in Denmark while competing for her club, the Apollo Trampolining Club, and this victory has pushed her forward into the national squad whom she will train with later this month.
Eighteen months ago she broke her arm whilst trampolining and the injury kept her out for four months and, as her father explained: "It knocked her confidence. It knocked her back a bit."
But he added: "I'm proud of her, very much so."
The title she won in Denmark was a seniors tournament featuring clubs from five different European countries and was the most prestigious she has won so far, having landed a haul of trophies since taking up the sport at the age of eight.
This weekend she competes in the Welsh Open for her club.
